Movies in 2011

Thanks to Netflix, Movies kept me occupied for most of the time this year. Having watched too many good films, now I'm not able to appreciate the mediocrity of a movie. The year started with a modern Tamil classic. None of the other Tamil movies lived up to ஆடுகளம். Nonetheless, a million good movies in English and a touching tale in Persian (Children of Heaven) have played spoilsport in my critique. The standard has risen so high that, I need to be selective now on.

I can't brief you about every good movie in this post. I've marked in blue, the movies you must watch before you die.

Disclaimers: You may not appreciate Citizen Kane for this reason - Kamal, Maniratnam and so many others have stolen the style of screenplay and the technical excellence from this movie, that it may look archaic. You may not appreciate Umberto D for this reason - all the other good movies in this list may take the limelight off this movie.
